Dangerous head gear

96ee7e31.jpgPeople.com asks their readers if they would wear this Erickson Beamon spiked headband. So far 2% have said ‘yes’ and 98% have said ‘n’.” You might be surprised by this, but I totally clicked yes — then quickly changed my answer to ‘no’ when I saw the massive price tag.

What would you guess an accessory like this would cost? My guess would be that this headband could be found at your local Hot Topic for a cool $14.99 tops. The reality is that this headband is $1,400.00 (yep, there are that many zeros in the price tag).

Erickson Beamon have you lost your ever-loving mind?

If this headband had a sane price tag, I would totally rock it with a pair of Taverniti So jeans, a white ribbed tank and sexy pair of heels. Sure I would get some stares, but how fun would it be to strut down the street with your horns and not a care in the world? So far no celebrities have jumped on the spiked horn headband bandwagon, but I am guessing “punk rocker” Avril Lavigne would sport it.

Sounds like a good time to me. But the real question is, Style Dash readers, would you wear it?

Dress of the Day: YAYA AFLALO

yayaa1053817280_201×396.jpgI’ve been on a bit of a tear shopping online sales, not that there is an unusually high number of deals and steals available right now, but simply because that’s what I do when I’m celebrating, procrastinating, stressed, depressed, bored…Pretty much all the time.

Over at Shopbop, this gorgeous dress is on sale for $239, down from $342. YaYa Aflalo’s La Sepette Piet comes in solid black or the black and white print shown, which I absolutely love. The dress has a subtle cap sleeve, deep V-neck and back (very sexy), and falls 38″ in length. Amazingly, I love that this dress is shown with the nude/beige heels - makes you legs look three miles long!

TLC make it stop: The Makeover Train

makeover-train-before-after.jpgLately I have found myself watching TLC (The Learning Channel) a lot, perhaps its the lack of decent television in the summer months or else I just want to learn a thing or two. Problem is, I ain’t learning squat. What I have learned is that TLC is in desperate need of a new programmer.

While watching What Not to Wear (love that show), I see a commercial for an online show called The Makeover Train. The premise is you step on the “makeover train” and get off looking fabulous. They even roll out a red carpet for your fabulous self to strut around on. Sounds good right? Wrong. What the heck kind of makeover can you really get on a train?

You get a smile. Seriously, what is different between these two photos? I feel like I am playing that picture hunt game or something. You know the game where you have to point out the differences between the two images. I watched this video twice and I still can’t figure out when the makeover happened. I think they fluffed up her hair, smacked her on the ass and sent her on her way.

That is one train I am not interested in riding. Good one TLC, lets stick to learning … What do you say?

Remember to keep calm and carry on

keepcalm.jpgEmma Watson and Rupert Grint looked great at the Paris premiere of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Watson didn’t dress as wackily as she usually does (it’s almost as if she dresses strictly according to a StyleFoul guide or something), but Grint stuck with his usual “too cool to dress up” style, wearing faded jeans and t-shirts. However, I noticed that the shirt that he wore to this particular premiere has been popping up everywhere.

“Keep Calm and Carry On,” his shirt says. It’s actually an image/saying from a British World War II poster that was designed to assure citizens that all measures were being taken to defend the country against Germany. It has a strange relevance to the Western world’s situation now, and is a nice juxtaposition to the scare tactics and fear mongering we see everywhere.

Plus, it’s a cool shirt.

Let’s be honest: Helena Bonham Carter isn’t exactly known for her grace and elegance at industry events. In fact, she has a reputation for dressing like a crazy person, and her latest red carpet attempt is no exception.

What is that thing that she’s carrying? Is it a bag? Is she holding a scarf? Are those the intestines of a loved one that she’s covered in cat fur for safe keeping?

This is besides the fact that her dress looks like a Victorian window dressing held together with safety pins.

The “bag,” the dress, and the kick-you-butt-and-don’t-ask-questions boots make Helena look more like her semi-homeless character in Fight Club than a world-famous movie star. It is a shame because, other than her abysmal fashion choices, she’s awesome in every way.

Oh, Helena! Hire a stylist!

katemosspetemor.bmpShe said he was worth trudging through the mud for. He said she was worth giving up the smack for. But apparently the on-again, off-again romance between Kate Moss and her perennially drugged-up, ex-rockstar boyfriend, Pete Doherty, was never meant to be.

Kate kicked Pete out of her house. The movers were spotted yesterday, taking away his stuff.

How unexpected. The shock. I just…I’m speechless…I…

There’s no official word from camp Moss, but seeing as her now ex-boyfriend appeared in court earlier this week to plead guilty to drug charges, and there’s also been a few rumors circulating that he hooked up with a South African model last week, I’d say things aren’t looking too good.

The question is: are Pete and Kate merely in the midst of another lover’s quarrel, or is this really the end?

Kylie Does Steven Alan

kylie-thumb.jpgEven Kylie Minogue can’t get enough of Steven Alan’s relaxed preppy look. Count her in good company.

Read about Alan, aka the Buyin’ King and his non-hostile takeover of the boutique scene that ran in Thursday’s edition of the Post. Find out how many togs in your closet that he’s designed or personally chosen.

Oh and to get Kylie’s look, the SA Breaker Dress is on sale for $158 down from $265.

From Here to Hyannisport

johnjackie_main-2-thumb.JPGI am more of a Nixon gal myself, but I just couldn’t pass up this John and Jackie necklace from East Villager,  Erica Weiner. She designs all kinds of trinkets with one off pieces, like these  John and Jackie coins that she discovered on a trip to Providence, RI.

Her prices are reasonable, and her jewelry has been sold in Anthropologie and Dolce Vita down on Ludlow Street. This little piece of Camelot is available in only limited supply, so act fast!

What a Croc

croc-thumb.jpgBloggers are in the business of grandly calling for the death of certain trends, and the Croc shoes are at the top of many people’s hit lists. So why are they still alive and multiplying like Kfed? Last night I saw a cute guy pull his gal over for an impromptu smooch. When I looked down at his feet, he was wearing the offensive foot urchins. I wondered nearly aloud what girl would kiss a guy with his toots firmly planted in geriatric plastic, when I realized that she was donning matching ones. (which brings up a whole other topic of matching couples, but we don’t have enough bandwidth for a rant of that nature) Is their Spring St. store still a go? Haven’t seen progress since they put up the sign last summer.

k2-2-thumb.JPGHoboken has its fair share of recent college grads, sticky-floor gin mills, and railroad apartments. What it doesn’t have is shopping. A google search of fashion and shopping in Hoboken yields a list skimpier than Bobby Brown’s career prospects. So when my friend tipped me off to a new dress shop at 728 Washington St, I checked it out(I am a sucker for small biz).

audrey-thumb.JPG  Hera Couture is owned by two friends, Kailtin Virag and Christen Rocco who quit their design jobs in the city when their side biz of making custom bridesmaid dresses took off. They opened a shop three months ago and starting cranking out timeles dresses made from 100% cotton men’s shirting imported from Italy. The lady-like frocks are demure but not stodgy; reminiscent of Jackie O and made with Jack’s shirt. The girls are a bit of a throwback in their aesthetic and set up. It’s rare nowadays to find young independent designers with their own storefronts and not just wholesaling.

They are also launching a full bridesmaids line in September, so there’s a cute option apart from the cool whip confectionary bridal party uniforms.
