Vogue and Technology - tips,reviews.

sofabunkbed.jpg

It’s been a wild and crazy summer here in SarahWorld, including quite a few nights when I’ve had unexpected dinner and party guests stay at my house overnight (cabs are just too expensive in LA). I’ve got a fairly large sofa in my living room, but if you’re confined to small spaces, or need room for more than just one for your slumber party, BonBon Trading’s Sofabed is essential. The sofa doesn’t just pull out into a bed — the thing completely transforms into a bunk bed. Of course, that killer orange color is pretty fabulous regardless of the sofa’s technology.

If you’re fairly confident that you’ve seen an iJacket from Zegna before, you’d be right, but the case-sensitive iJACKET is upping the ante by including Bluetooth along with Eleksen’s ElekTex smart fabric controls. Dubbed “communication clothing,” the coat will reportedly enable users to “use their cellphone and simultaneously listen to music on their iPod,” which is sure to result in quite a few incomprehensible conversations. Nevertheless, wearers will be able to mange both their handset and DAP through a “sleek control embedded in the jacket sleeve,” and you can even expect the music volume to decrease when you receive an incoming call. Of course, all these luxuries won’t come cheap (especially on a Zegna), but even we think “starting at $1,700″ is a bit extreme.

Transformers fever is all but dead now, but that doesn’t mean that the ladies can’t get in on the something-becoming-something-else action. The Dos Caras jacket functions fine as a jacket, but when removed, can twist and turn and reconvene into a shoulder bag. Definitely cool, but kind of unfortunate that you have to pick one or the other. What will you do if you’re both cold and need to carry a bunch of things?

Instead of always having to remember to lock your desktop when you go for a whiz at work, this Security Ring by designer Yang Hai takes care of all of that for you. You put the ring on one of your fingers, and when it gets a certain distance away from the base station (which is connected to your computer), all your programs get locked. We’ve set up our machines to do the same thing with Bluetooth cellphones, but a ring is much easier to remember. Too bad it’s only a design, because we could see ourselves using this for other purposes as well.

I am a surprisingly hairy man. All that hair needs the right tools to tame, trim and shave. The three devices up to the task? The Mangroomer, the Philips Bodygroom, and the Flowbee have been around for a while and are great separately, but this is the first time that we’ve seen their full power unleashed together. Here’s how they stood up.

The allure of playing with Nyko’s Wiimote holding station / party bowl hybrid was just too strong for the folks at Joystiq to resist, and hey, we can’t say we blame ‘em. As the crew put it through the typical paces, they found that the cooling, score keeping, and organizing functions all worked perfectly as advertised, but even they couldn’t deny that it essentially redefined superfluous. Still, we all know this thing makes throwing parties entirely easier for introverts, so be sure and check out the read link if you’re desperate to see how awesome the Wii Party Station truly is.

While some things may take you back, the Lite Table manages to warp you way back. Upon first glance, there’s absolutely no doubt where this masterpiece of a table got its inspiration, and for those who wasted hours on end moving pegs and devising new Lite Bright creations as a wee lad (or dame), any price would seem reasonable for this. Granted, this piece has been spotted before, but thanks to Jellio, what appears to be a fanboy’s creation is actually available for purchase. What’s it gonna take? A mere $600, a whole lot of patience, and a prime spot in the living room to show your youngsters that grown-ups can still relate.

Fossil Analog/Digital Goes Both Ways

smallish_fossil_ana_digi_watch.jpgThis bi-chronical watch from Fossil has a hard time explaining exactly what it is it does to its parents thanks to its dual analog and digital face. The left side is analog, reading numbers in a vertical configuration, whereas the main chunk of the rest of the face has two hands and tells time in an analog fashion. Does this look cool? Definitely. Will you be totally confused if you accidentally change one time to be slightly off from the other? You bet.

This ring is another fashionable addition to the fabbed-from-Apple-notebooks line of geek jewelry—if you’re around six years old. On the other hand, even a six year old can afford it, since it only costs $4

Phone shaped music pillow

ipodspeaker.jpg

Place the iPod or other music player in this phone shaped pillow, and listen to your favorite music while you relax.

The pillow is covered with a fury fabric, which comes in blue, orange, green, and pink, so there is a color there for everyone and every style. Inside there are two speakers, which are either side of the neck part of the pillow. This mainly being marketed for at kids, but I am sure that does not matter, if you like it, why not get one.
